Karen, a determined 61-year-old, is a shining example of resilience and renewal. A participant with WCIG’s Disability Employment Services at WCIG’s Melton office, her story is one of overcoming adversity and finding a renewed sense of purpose.
In 2006, Karen’s life took a drastic turn due to a severe car accident that left her with significant injuries and limited mobility. For 16 long years, she battled pain and the aftermath of her injuries. It was during this challenging period that Karen discovered WCIG, thanks to a recommendation aimed at helping her secure meaningful employment that accommodated her needs.
Before her accident, Karen had a thriving career in senior management, where she excelled in overseeing customer service operations for high-profile businesses, including major banks and national retailers. Her expertise in developing systems and improving business efficiencies was widely recognised. However, the accident not only damaged her spine but also left her grappling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which drastically altered her ability to lead a normal life.
