Australia’s disability employment gap is still too large. Around 26 percentage points separate the employment rates of people with and without disability – very similar to most comparable developed economies.
This striking consistency suggests the gap is neither uniquely Australian nor explicable by any single Australian program or policy setting. It reflects something deeper in prevailing assumptions about disability and the way modern economies organise work.
