New CEO Appointment

On behalf of Disability Employment Australia I would like to inform you of the appointment of our new CEO, Rick Kane.

Rick will be familiar to most of you having worked in the sector for the past 18 years. Rick has served on the ACE/DEA Board for 6 years, most recently as the Chairperson.

In his Policy and Public Affairs role at WISE Employment and as the Disability Employment Australia Chairperson, Rick has developed strong relationships with the Minister’s office, government departments, disability advocacy peaks, employer peaks and stakeholders.

The Board believes Rick’s history in the sector, his knowledge, policy acumen and capacity to build enduring relationships will be advantageous to the sector and our members.

This is an historic period for disability employment programs. The future of Disability Employment Services in Australia is being reconsidered in relation to the NDIS principles and its twin pillars: giving people with disability choice and control and improving their economic participation and independence.

Disability Employment Australia, as the pre-eminent peak body representing DES providers, is an interested and committed stakeholder in the future of disability employment in Australia.

The Board believes that Rick Kane, as the incoming Disability Employment Australia CEO, will continue the great work of Craig Harrison in representing members' interests to Government both in regard to the current DES programs (ESS and DMS) and in constructing the future of disability employment programs as the central pathway for improving economic participation for people with disability in Australia.

Rick will commence as Disability Employment Australia’s CEO full-time on the 5th January 2015, please join me in wishing him well.
